Hey everyone! I’m so glad you’re checking out my blog. First, I just want to describe to you what my goals are so we’re all on the same page.

THE PROBLEM

Brains are very complex and mysterious, and we all fear the unknown – it’s part of human nature. However, this fear has built a stigma around mental illness. This continues to make those struggling with such problems feel alone and, well, unwanted for being so different. My goal here isn’t to give you every answer about how the brain works, nor is it to give you ways to heal every mental illness. I will offer some explanations of diseases as well as some coping skills, but I don’t have all the answers. My goal is to allow those of you who want to learn more to explore the facts, and to provide a safe and welcoming place for discussion between those dealing with a mental health issue, whether within themselves or in a family member or friend.

Like I said, I don’t have all of the answers, and I’m not a doctor who can diagnose you. However, I am a second-year psychology student at the University of New Hampshire, and I am learning tons of new information every day that I would love to share with anyone who is willing to listen.

WHAT YOU’LL FIND

Some topics I would like to tackle are the basics of mental health disorders (ranging from mild depression to schizophrenia to Alzheimer’s), every-day coping skills for those dealing with moderate anxiety or depression, treatments (especially the benefits of music therapy, as this is the field that I will be going into), and links to find support. If you have other suggestions, please let me know. I want to be as helpful for you guys as possible 🙂

Let’s take the first step toward erasing the stigma by spreading knowledge and opening up a safe place to discuss the truth behind mental health.
